My family and i will be moving to corpus christi, and after about a year i will be moving to austin... is there a particular cell phone provider for these areas? who do you all recommend? we are currently with verizon, and it would be best if we could stay with them, but you got to do what you got to do...

thanks for any help

After trying all of the providers (either with my own account or getting my daughter and friends to try their providers in specific areas known to have "black holes" for cell service - as a real estate agent I have to have service EVERYWHERE), I ended up with Verizon. They seem to work everywhere I go around the Austin/Central Texas area. I can count on one hand the number of calls I've had dropped since I got them several years ago, and those have turned out to be the OTHER cell phone that dropped the call.

I've had problems with T-Mobile. (Never used it myself, but my daughter and her friend did and I had them test it in those locations where I generally had trouble with other services.) And the calls that are generally dropped since I got Verizon are between them and me, and they're still on T-Mobile.

The capitol and 6th street aren't really a good test, though. They're right downtown where service should be expected to be good.

How much do you use it? Do you want a contract and family plan? If not, Virgin Mobile is awesome. When we traveled through the lonely areas of Texas, my VM service worked fine -- other family members with T-Mobile couldn't make or receive calls. I don't need a ton of minutes, so I have the $24.99 plan that gives you 700 minutes per month.

T-Mobile blows! They're the cheapest & its obvious why. You get what you pay for with them which is crap.

AT&T or Verizon is the way to go.

Well, that's not been my experience over the past few years with T-Mobile. But YMMV, of course. I tend to drive all over Central Texas and out in the boonies; if you stick to inside the city limits, you may not have a problem. Though my daughter and friend do tend to drive in Austin and still have dropped calls.
