I remember Elysian Fields, the owner was Joey Salem. He has a jewelry store on Alameda across the street from Gates Donuts.

Nolan’s is still here, the one on Weber is now a Mexican food place, but the one that was on Airline moved to Staples and Saratoga. There is another one in Parkdale. Neither is any good anymore, unfortunately. The last time I got pinto beans, they were spoiled. When I talked to the manager, she said maybe they were burned!! They were not burned, but that means they have no problem selling below average food...

I hope that you spoke with a manager about this, maybe Mr Culp himself?

Does anyone have any information on the Kmart that was in Mission Shopping Center? I heard it originally opened as a Globe Discount City store.

I 'm pretty sure that it opened around 1973 or so. I was in the Cub Scouts and kept hearing the Mission Center opening jungle on the radio on the way to Camp Karankawa.

That's probably when the Globe opened. My grandma said it closed in the late 70's. I can't find any information on the Kmart that replaced it.

I only remember (1) K-mart, the one that was where Best Buy, Michaels and Bed, Bath & Beyond are now. K-Mart closed a lot of stores in the 80s or 90s.

Corpus actually had 4 Kmart's. The one you mentioned opened in 1970 and closed in 1994 when the Super Kmart across from Wal-Mart on SPID was built. There was also the one in Mission Shopping Center that I mentioned and one in Calallen in Five Points Shopping Center. Beeville and Portland also had Kmart's too.
