I guess the subject line says it all. Never been there, need help from you guys. Something comparable to the Hilton or Mariott chains.

Thanks,

Naima

Consider my recommendations here:

//www.city-data.com/forum/8808932-post17.html

My wife and I go to the beach at Port Aransas, near Corpus at least once a year, driving in from Austin. We like to stay at the Lighthouse Inn in Rockport Rockport Texas Hotel - the Lighthouse Inn at Aransas Bay (http://www.lighthousetexas.com/index.shtml - broken link) and drive over to Port Aransas for the beach. The Lighthouse Inn is only 4 or 5 years old so is in better shape then most of the older accommodations in Port Aransas. I have a few photos of the Inn here LightHouseInn.jpg photo - cptinrn photos at pbase.com Light House Inn - view of the bay photo - cptinrn photos at pbase.com

There is a Marriott in Corpus that looks like it probably has great views of the bay. So you could do something similar staying there and commuting out to the beach for the day.

Corpus Christi Bayfront Marriott‎
900 N Shoreline Blvd, Corpus Christi, TX‎ - (800) 204-2222‎

This might be called the Omni now, I'm getting conflicting hits on the internet

Omni Hotel Corpus Christi - Bayfront Tower‎
900 North Shoreline Blvd., Corpus Christi, TX‎ - (361) 887-1600‎

Yes, what used to be the Marriot is now the Omni and there are two of them, the Omni Bayfront and the Omni Marina. They are just down the street from one another. There is also the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach that sits on the bay and Holiday Inn Sunspree that is on Padre Island.

You should also look in the Port Aransas area if you want to be very close to Gulf Beaches.

you really need to stay in port aransas or north padre island. Port aransas is a pretty cool little beach town. Typical housing is via condo complexes though not hotels. But that actually works pretty well, but the quality can be highly variable.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach 2-3 July and the Omni Bayfront 4 July. Different as night and day. The Holiday Inn was no better than an Old Motel 6. The place is old and needs updating. Only one elevator was working on the 5-floor south tower, and that was small, hot, jerky, and noisy (won't last much longer). The rooms were OK and the staff were very friendly. The food was good too. One more gripe...they allow dogs, but seeing about 50 dogs doing their thing outside the hotel (and barking inside) was too much. I also never saw so many coolers and cases of beer being brought in on the 3rd. Good thing we stayed at the Omni on the 4th. Great room (facing the bay), service, and food!

BTW: Great fireworks display Corpus Christi!!!

The Holiday Inn Emerald Beach is tired and worn and twice the price of the Best Western Grand Marina that is completely remodeled from top to bottom. We stayed at the Holiday Inn once and the Best Western the other 4 times we stayed in Corpus checking out the city, neighborhoods and building our home.

I grew up in Corpus Christi. My favorite place to stay is the Omni Hotel Downtown on the bayfront. The view is beautiful of the the Bay, and they have a parking garage. I really cannot recommend a Hotel on Padre Island. (Different location than Downtown) Port Royale is on the Island, but have never stayed there. Here, you could walk out onto the sand and swim in the Gulf of Mexico. Be careful of the blue jellyfish. Very painful if you touch it. Ouch!

Have a great time!

I have to second (or third?) the downtown Omni hotels! They aren't far from the beach.
