Memorial Coliseum has obstacles, optimism » Corpus Christi Caller-Times

Here we go.... Nothing like a massive upscale Mediterranean development whose centerpiece is the MC with an ice skating rink. The decision makers are so out of touch it's not even funny.

Again, only doing so because I just picked the first 10 things that entered my mind. I could have listed 50 if I wanted to and still forget a bunch of stuff.

Listing The Shops at La Cantera was because it adds to the quality of life for people in San Antonio. That's a great development for SA, as it helps attract businesses and employees.

I could have listed SA getting the Cyber Command HQ, I could have mentioned the growth at the Medical Center, I could have mentioned TPC
San Antonio, I could have mentioned the Hemisfair Park redevelopment, I could have mentioned UTSA getting D-I football, I could have mentioned SA getting a new four year University (A&M-San Antonio), I could have mentioned the Linear Creekway and Parks Greenbelt under construction. I could have mentioned Caterpillars plant relocation to Seguin.

I could have mentioned anyone of those things instead of the Shops, but again, the first ten things that entered my mind and I typed down.
WOW! Myself being an outsider considering a move to Texas preferably in the Corpus Christi or surrounding areas, I am amazed at how badly people speak of it. If you hate the place so much, why not just move instead of talk trash about it? Clearly Corpus Christi and its small town feel isnt for everyone but where does all the bitterness and stuff come from regarding it? Maybe you've found practically a slice of paradise here in the US with everything you like but youre bitter because it dosnt meet ALL your needs which may force you to have to move elsewhere? Or your just a bitter, angry individual with nothing better to do then spread negativity? Im really not sure why people like no cigar and lemon fresh do this. Most people coming online to check out forums such as these are looking for information about an area not mud slinging. Regardless of the way people on here have talked about Corpus Christie, I still think it will be the best choice for my family. If Im wrong, God forbid, then We will just pack up and move out but not trash talk the area on our way out, whats the point? I dislike my current home town, but you wont see me up on a forum trash talking it, instead im reading other forums regarding places I may decide to move, and when I find one, off we will go. I guess I just dont understand all the negativity and insults being thrown around on here. But thanks to those who have been given their own honest, hopefully mostly unbiased opinions about this area, thus helping me make the best decisions on wether or not Corpus Christi will work for me (I think it will) Clearly Corpus Christi appeals to families more then "young, snobbish, professionals" and I think my family will love Corpus Christi!

Crime is horrible, schools in the metro area are so/so, pollution from refineries, the threat of a hurricane demolishing your home, and being in a HIDTA (high intensity drug trafficing area... I wouldn't raise a family in the CC proper area if you paid me, unless they could go t a private school.

Most families here can't make the decision to move because they either don't have the means or they are military.

Oh and lemonfresh lives in SA, and I AM moving out of here... To hopefully start a family somewhere a lot nicer

Wow, its THAT horrible but you'd still live there if your kids could go to private school???? Also it sounds like CC is pretty progressive in the crime and drug dept but yet it sucks because it hasnt changed in 80 years or whatever???? Whatever works I guess. Youve lived in CC for quite some time (5years right) for it being so dirty, polluted and crime ridden. Its funny that so far, only with maybe 2 or 3 posters, have these things even been mentioned much less elaborated on. Had there been more postings emphasizing the crime, pollution and drug trafficking, that would have raised a HUGE red flag for me being as I do have 2 children whose safety and well-being is utmost in my plans to move. But anyway, Im not interested in joining in the mud slinging fest as I have better things to do with my time, and prefer to avoid negativity as much as possible ( Its that "live and let live" mentality, I guess ;-) )
Gabetx, would you be so kind as to give me the lowdown on the negative as well as positive things I have heard so far about the CC and/or surrounding areas. Im considering CC or SA for my move but am leaning more towards the CC and surrounding areas because the warm temps and proximity to the lovely ocean and beaches are some of the main things drawing me to the Texas area. I am a college graduate, Real Estate Agent and Home Stager, and interested in finding out what the job market looks like in the CC area. Also, info from other CC/Surrounding area residents would be greatly appreciated regarding life in the CC area. Thanks

First thing, please break up the massive block of sentences.

Second, I don't hate CC nor do I live in Corpus Christi. I live in San Antonio.

The bitterness comes over time when you've watched the city have so many opportunities to grow and makes people trying to come into town feel like an outsider. That just happened to the people that bought what was the Padre Staples mall and they got pretty vocal about how rotten they were made to feel by the politicians.
It comes from the lies we're told. A few years ago they were putting in a swim park and putting in this and that and of course it didn't happen.
The bitterness comes from the men who run this town who have brought new things into town.....all sports.
Why stay? Why else, your job, your family, your friends but there comes a time that even that isn't enough to keep you here. Many of us push the bitterness down and live a content life. Those that have had enough leave or make plans to leave.

Wow, how fast we block things out. I forgot all about when the Jack in the Box went in and the lines were hours long and with so many cars the police had to be there to keep control.
When you live in Corpus, even the small things excite you....for a while.

You're trying too hard to talk yourself into liking Corpus. That's my opinion; you can take it or leave it. Corpus may be GREAT for you.
Ok, for some pesky little facts. Corpus equals the bay. The island equals the Gulf of Mexico. The Atlantic Ocean this isn't. The Atlantic runs into the Indian Ocean and the Indian Ocean we aren't either.
Mapquest you might want to look around because you've missed a lot. It could be beneficial to you. It has great maps of cities and yes; you can also use it for driving directions. If you go to mapquest.com and click on "Maps" and type in Corpus Christi under the city and Tx under the state you'll get this which can help you a lot when in town. Map of Corpus Christi, TX by MapQuest
