I live right near the cruise port (San Diego) and see the passengers line up on a regular basis. There are two types of cruises...those with screaming children and those that are over 70! I can't imagine willingly putting myself in a situation where I'd be trapped on a boat with either of those. Most cruises aren't cheap, I'd rather spend that money on a real trip!
I was interested in a cruise back during the days when I had little kids to support and couldn't afford it, but today's cruises leave me cold. With all the "entertainment" aboard, it seems to me as if it would be like living in a giant variety TV show and I'm just not interested in that.

Most of the things people do on cruises now could be done on dry land and a lot cheaper. Back in "the day," cruises sold the lure of the sea. Now, the ocean is of no real importance, it's just something to get bored looking at between ersatz rock climbing, dancing, video games, drinking and water slides.

No thanks.

We were looking at an Alaskan cruise, but between this story and every story of viruses that roam the ships, we probably won't be booking anytime soon.

BTW, don't most of these ships run every single day? When do they have time to THROUGHLY clean and maintain the ship? Also, from what I hear from friends, Carnival is the dollar store of cruise lines.

We cruise at least once a year and we love it. But you have to understand the product ... they say there is a cruise for everyone ... and choose which one is right for you. We have found a cruise line that we like and we choose the cruise based on itinerary. That way we get to visit a bunch of places that interest us but we don't have to pack and unpack for each one. The cruises we choose tend to attract to 40 - 80 crowd. But as we are 55 that is okay. And never once have I got sick on board.

Agreed. Most people do not take the time to do the research BEFORE buying ot they rely on a travel agent (sales person).
