It's summertime and this year my wife and I have decided to take the 4 kids on a cruise but we are at a loss at which cruise we should look into as we have never partaken in this method of vacationing. Is there a particular cruise that you guys can recommend to a family of 6? We are not big drinkers and party goers if that helps any in your suggestions.

We want to have fun and relax and let the kids have fun too so maybe a cruise that's more family oriented and kid friendly but at the same time nothing too chaotic with kids running around everywhere.

Thank you in advance for all your help and I'm excited to hear some suggestions.

My advice is skip the cruise and just fly to the Bahamas or Mexico.

We did a Carnival cruise out of Miami with our two boys and they LOVED it! They couldn't get enough of the kid's programs (which also gave us some adult time) and the pools.
Wasn't my favorite way to travel, but it's been 4 years and the boys still talk about it.

I want to recommend Disney Cruise....Specially it will sail out from Galveston for the last time time this year. Our family (5 adults) just went on one in February and we all had a great time.

We did a Disney cruise as well (last Dec) for our family of five, and it was wonderful. I would recommend looking into that for sure.

A lot depends on what you want from your cruise experience and what your budget can handle. First you are almost too late for this summer, so you had better move fast. Also, many cruise ships spend a lot of time in Alaska and the med this time of year so you will not have as good a selection. Are you talking 3 days, 4 days or 7? Do you want to cruise close to home or just cruise? For the person who suggested you skip the cruise and just take a vacation to Bahamas or Mexico, I disagree. You asked about cruises, thus, obviously that is what you are wanting to do.

Your choices pretty much will be Carnival, RCI or Disney. Disney has the largest cabins and is great for kids, as long as the kids are say, under 10, but it is also much more expensive. Both Carnival and RCI have great kids programs and teen programs as well. NCL, is a great family line as well, but they don't do the Caribbean in the summer. They do the Med, Alaska and Bermuda.

Someone advised you to check CruiseCritic. I completely agree. There is where you will get all kinds of information on cruises. BTW, I will advise, don't take personal reviews too seriously. Most of them are posted by people who have a favorite line and or an agenda. Take them with a grain of salt.

BTW, when I made the comment about Disney not being for the older kids, I do know of several instances where the kids much older than 10 liked other lines better.

What are the ages of the kids? That's a critical question.

and +++++++ to nmnita's excellent information above.
