ok, looking for a first time cruise, we are in our late forties. As I am pouring over all these posts I am discovering some cruise lines are better than others. I like good food, I like to relax, and maybe do some dancing with my wife. May sound weird but good food is a priority for us. Thanks

You are correct that each line is a little different. The time of year will also influence the age of the passengers.

Short cruises will be younger crowds which would probably work for you, but the down size to this will be not getting a really good feel for cruising, or not the true feeling. Still it is a start. There probably isn't much difference in which line you choose for the shorter cruises and the food will not be much different. If possible you might want to fly to Florida to board There will be a lot more choices. Do stay away from holiday seasons, summer and spring break. These are the times the kids take over or can take over the ship. Late Oct is a great time for cruising as well as late April, Jan and Feb.

There aren't really destinations to get to from NJ in only 4/5 days. 5 nights will get you to and from Bermuda but any other desintation is going to necessitate a week.

What time of year and what are your interests beyond food? We cruise with Celebrity and the food is fantastic.
