Both. We enjoy the modern ships and look forward to getting settled on them. There are a ton of things to do on the cruise ships to keep you entertained and busy. Then when you hit your destination you're all pumped up for that part of the trip.
The ship! You really don't have enough time in any port to "get to know" the area, so it's just a "teaser", really.
We PAID for the use of the ship--and we do USE it!!!! The ports are just an added bonus!

I think I agree with you. The reason is b/c I've been to a couple of the islands and they pretty much seem the same to me. Also, I agree they don't give you enough time there. It seems like it's rush, rush.
Well if you're going on a Caribbean cruise, I would agree that most of the destinations are the pretty much the same. But you didn't specify what area you'd be cruising in. My husband and I are planning a Mediterranean cruise next year and I couldn't care less what ship we go on, I want to see the sites of the Mediterranean! I'd love the ship to stop at Naples so we could go to Pompeii and hopefully one or two of the Greek Isles. There's just so much to see of the Mediterranean, that's why a cruise through it would be great. I don't care if it's rushed, there's so many sites in the Med that I want to see, I expect it to be rushed whether I go on a cruise or not.
Both to me. I wouldn't book a cruise that didn't have the destination/ports that I want to see, but I also would take the time to look at the deck plans/amenities of the boat, because you're spending a lot of time there.
