This is something that's really been getting on my nerves for the last year or two. CNN used to be a good, reliable, relatively unbiased news outlet. But it seems lately all they do is try to stir up trouble. a lot of the articles on their US section are meaningless and have no place as a headline on a national news outlet, but they write them up and post them because they can throw something sensational into it - seems like every crime whose victim and perpetrator have different skin colors gets run through over and over and over again, with the race aspect being brought up at every last opportunity, even when (especially when) race played absolutely no part in the crime.
On top of that, they drag out and beat news stories til long past the time they should be left to die. Fo example, that kidnapping victim hannah anderson, cnn simply will not shut up about her. There was an article last week going on about how she liked twitter. They just won't let her get back to her life.
That's just one example of the trend CNN has been following for a while now. CNN has lost a lot of credibility with me just because of the horrible angles they throw on everyday events and common crime, with no apparent motivation beyond making trouble.
I agree that CNN began sensationalizing the news several years ago. I first noticed that they began by producing misleading headlines to draw television viewers and later website viewers. New, the network mostly focuses on stories that will attract the most people while maintaining the practice of misleading headlines.
With Fox serving the far right population and MSNBC serving the left, and now CNN losing its credibility with me, there is no more 24-hour source of television news for me.
You guys are absolutely right. CNN and HLN have lost all their credibility as far as I am concerned. They milk some story to death and even create spin off shows to get more coverage on that story. I realize they are entitled to make a living and they do that by how much air time they are able to convince people to watch (and in turn attract advertisers), but they have gone way overboard.
I actually have reverted back to watching our local news because of the phoniness of the major "news" stations. I also don't have to look at and hear Nancy Grace any more either !
They've become the leftwing version of FOX basically a news entertainment channel, not really worth watching for real news, and on the occasion they do cover a news story they basically go overboard and cover it to death. CBC BBC, Al Jazeera are much more the benchmarks of todays news reporting

I agree. I'm out of options when it comes to cable news, especially since U-verse decided that I don't possess the requisite maturity to decide whether I want to watch Al Jazeera America.
I stopped watching cnn when Anderson Cooper started having celebs and trash reality tv news comments. The "Ridiculist" is a sad commentary on how far cnn has fallen.
HLN is nothing but livestream lurid crime sensationalism and shills like "dr" drew.

I have spent the last hour watching CNN. They had pundit after pundit saying what a bad job and poor leader Obama is. I had to keep hitting the info button to verify I was watching CNN!
For some reason, CNN thought it had to become a lever against FOX. So did most of the other major news broadcasts. The CBS evening news, NBC, ABC, all the same counter to FOX.
That not one of them could simply decide to become a standard of professional news broadcasting is strange. I think people would respond accordingly and their rating would go up.
It isn't hard to watch any major news broadcast and see the agendas. Part of the problem is the 24 hours news thing. After about an hour they simply have to make things up as they go.
I forgot to add that they have also become very irresponsible. For example, CNN and HLN fanned the flames of racism over that Zimmerman trial verdict. They simply would not let it go , even though they knew there was the potential of unrest and violence over it. They kept throwing gas on the fire, and that is certainly not responsible journalism IMO.
No you aren't. I haven't watch CNN for my news info in years.
