Thank God somebody reported this guy. This could have been worse than Columbine and sandy Hook.

Minnesota teenager charged with planning school massacre: police

MINNEAPOLIS (Reuters) - A southern Minnesota teenager who idolized a gunman from a Colorado high school massacre was charged Thursday with planning to kill his parents and sister and then slaughter students and staff at his school, authorities said.

John David LaDue, 17, laid out his plans in an extensive journal and amassed bomb-making materials including gun powder and ball bearings as well as firearms and ammunition, Waseca, Minnesota police said.

What totally blows my mind in these cases is how the parents have no clue what is going on.

Why is it that you never hear about these guys idolizing Cho, Breivik, Whitman, Hassan, or (God forbid) Lanza? No, after all these years it's still all about Columbine Columbine Columbine. I don't think there's a single criminal in history with as much of a cult following as those two guys.

Strange also is that a school shooting resulting in deaths first occurred in Moses Lake Washington in 1996. That's before Columbine, isn't it? Why has practically no one ever heard of this shooting? I only know because my family was living in Moses Lake and my daughter worked for a lawyer.

I agree. Parents need to start paying attention.

Actually, the first school shooting ever was Charles Whitman in 1966, but that's ancient history now. They've been happening in America for years, but only started to become a big deal in the mid-late 90s, it seems. The first one I remember hearing about was Paducah, KY.

Wait, attempted murder? Is planning the same as attempt in MN?

He was charged as a juvenile with four counts of attempted first degree murder, two counts of first degree attempted criminal damage to property and six counts of possession of an explosive or incendiary device by a person under age 18.

It seems to me, with the prevalence of these "outcast" or bullied kids going this far in vengeance, that bullying would be a thing of the past. Even some muscle head jock , it would seem, might think twice about pushing some "nerdy" or strange kid around.
The possibility of that kid giving him , and all his buddies and whoever else is handy a gasoline bomb for breakfast is all to real.
And as its been mentioned, his parents were clueless?! I stuck to my son like glue. There is no way I would have missed something this over the top. A parent knows when their child is not acting right. I guess some "parents" just ignore it and hope it goes away.
