There's seems to be praise and fallout already even though this is going to take several years to take full effect. The coalitions pushing for the raise were fighting under the stance that $500 million would be pumped into Seattle's economy.
The opposing side says that they will have to trickle down the increased wages to the consumer by way of "cost of living" charges.
It does go into effect for some years from what I read. Of course the cost has to be covered in cost which is probably why they did make it immediately effective. it just adds to inflation cost in state as cost are covered.
Historically inflation has always outpaced minimum wage increases over the last 40 years. When you factor in the middle class job loss putting cash in the hands of consumers can't be worse than what we have now.
The Chinese have gone from bicycles to cars while Americans are going from cars to bicycles.
The problem isn't McDonalds paying their employees $7 an hour. The problem is - the only employer is McDonalds, who is paying their employees $7 an hour.

be the nation's highest minimum wage as unfair to small franchises.
The Seattle City Council voted unanimously this month
to gradually raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. The plan gives businesses
with more than 500 employees nationally at least three years to phase in the
increase — four if they provide health insurance. Smaller employers get seven
years.

The Socialist party in Seattle was totally against the ramp up period as well and were planning on suing. They were looking for an immediate raise in minimum wage and were upset at the agreement reached.

It will be interesting to see this play out.
Does that mean Bezos is willing to pay his baby kindles- fifteen bucks and change? Or, is he going to claim that Amazon is actually on the moon and considered to be a distributor with warehouses that does not produce anything along with his third party asteroids? ( That is the strategy that he took against sales tax in previous years)
Is making a living and trying to raise a family in a major metropolitan area like Seattle, really realistic? Things are expensive for a reason. When you want to live close to things that everybody else wants, you have to pay for it. It's called demand. I think it's stupid to think that we are enabling so many people to try to make a living without going out getting skills, and education that would put them in a better position to earn even more.

When you want to live close to things that everybody else wants, you have to pay for it. It's called demand. I think it's stupid to think that we are enabling so many people to try to make a living without going out getting skills, and education that would put them in a better position to earn even more.
Actually the cost of goods will have to go up to cover it. So, the $15.00 isn't going to solve anything. I can't imagine this going off in just one state.. but good luck to Washington. I hope this works-out for them. So, if a dozen roses are $75, they will have to go up to at least $125.. Again, the wealthy will be paying for the double wage increase.. or paying for/to their children ( basically) through a wage hike.
I guess that's better than the annual family BBQ dinner in the backyard. Or a room in the old house.. These kids are paying taxes through their $7 an hour
