John Kerry says we are not at war. Obama says we are.

They should make up their mind.

I agree, and can see us protecting ourselves, but how do we benefit being the worlds police?

We're at war with Eurasia. We've always been at war with Eurasia.

The failed War on Drugs is global because the federal government wanted it to be so. They give all countries money to act like are in on it. If they didn't fund it it wouldn't exist. Yep, the US federal government funds the entire global war on drugs. A war which can never be won. Ever.
It is on us for this reason alone.

Shocking, right?

Don't bogart

US Wars in Afghanistan, Iraq to Cost $6 trillion | Global Research

That $6 trillion could have funded Medicare and Social Security into perpetuity and provided plenty of jobs through funding badly needed infrastructure projects, greatly benefiting the American public. Instead, it was spent on creating more bomb craters in the middle east sand, infuriating locals and aiding recruitment for the very terror organizations we're supposedly "degrading."

Do we have any idea how much the war on drugs has cost us? Including everything, like all the people in jail because of pot?

Wouldn't be surprised if that is more than the $6 trillion. It's just spread over all the smaller local governments so nobody really realizes.

We've wasted trillions chasing ghosts while our countries bones rot/decay.

Every empire eventually turns in on itself. It has to as it becomes more inhumane, more obvious in its paranoiad need for control.

That's what has happened in the last 30+ years.

Those in power begin to think they are god-like, unstoppable and so they keep taking their greed further and further away from sustainability.

That is what has happened here.

Technology has leaped ahead greatly giving these types so full of their own divine ego they believe they can achieve anything they wish. Merely with TV alone have they glazed over the eyes of the more sensible people in this country and others too that had/have influence.

Orwell had it right in that quaint psychic foray he called 1984. "Perpetual war for perpetual peace". All empires play that game as all empires have a voracious appetite. The larger they are the more they need to eat.

So we are at war with anybody and everybody but most acutely we have been placed into a divisive war full of hate against ourselves. Ever ride public transit or go thru a station and see the placards advising one to report suspicious behavior and packages? Orwell warned you about those. Too many decided not to heed those warnings and go shopping instead.

No, not really. The US government attacked the middle class, but the middle class never fought back. They continued to attack the middle class, but the people paid no attention because they were too busy watching cable TV, chatting online, taking selfies, and playing video games. Now the middle class has been decimated and the people have begun to wake up, but they can't figure out what went wrong. So they blame it on Wall Street, the bankers, the corporate executives, anybody who has more money than they do, and anyone who looks like they have more money than they do.

Most likely because the government has been purchased by the wealthy and their corporations.

Nobody. The United States of America hasn't made a formal declaration of war since 1941. Of course, Canada is no better. Last Nation we declared war on was Japan after Pearl Harbour.

I'm not sure how many "extended conflicts" are going on right now though.
