I've never met ANYONE that just took a language class and was able to communicate without visiting the country.
Again, speak for yourself.

So far, just today by reading, cooking, working in the garden and finishing up a project for work, I've used my education in English (where I learned the difference between you're and your, as well as proper punctuation and capitalization), political science, sociology, psychology, French, Spanish, chemistry, biology, and math.

And I love Shakespeare.

Yeah, I pretty much realize the value of teachers over the value of pro football players.

No one should be studying a foreign language/shakespeare/memorizing a bunch of dates you'll never remember after the test ect ect.

The stuff that will prevent future genocides/wars is the important stuff History is destined to repeat itself if you don't LEARN from the past. People should be taught how to read/write, basic science/math, and history(but not the memorizing random dates crap), civics, and that's it.
I tend to agree.

In a way, we worship "intelligence" which is just as biological as being able to run fast. The kids at the top of the class get a lot of the same treatment as the star athletes...because their brain can retain more information than others.

Actually, its about 8 1/2 minutes of action!

I'm just the opposite. I see college ball as exploitation at its worst. Not necessarily exploitation of the ones who play, more exploitation of all the hundreds of thousands of boys who gave up studying because they thought they could play college ball and then "go on to the pros". College football, I feel wastes an awful lot of lives, and skews priorities.

Most of the kids you see playing football on Saturday have no business at a 4 year college. The ones that should be there would have gone to college without the scholarship.

Where are the parents in your scenario?

it just shows why the league layers are getting less respect. Now that isn't most of the players I have seen who know it harms the entire league what Rice did as well as others. Its his personal problem tho now that he does not represent professional football.

And here's another point:

Rice married the Janay Palmer. She never pressed charges and never wanted the outcry that has now enveloped them both. In fact, she was indicted on charges of simple assault, but those charges have been dropped.
So, by removing Rice's ability to provide, hasn't SHE been punished also? Now, they BOTH must worry about employment, and who will hire him or her, and what THEY will do.

If I bashed my wife, my employer would not fire me. If I went to jail, that would be a different thing because I would lose time from work, but for bashing my wife I would have to answer to local law enforcement. But I wouldn't be fired. MY WIFE would not get caught up in this, "Let's GIT HIM!" mentality that has pervaded sports fans.
God Bless Ray and Janay. They are both victims of 21st century America.

Ray Rice grew up on public assistance and without a father. He has never finished college.
It would have been better if he had gone to college for the right reasons.

Most of school is total B.S. Get real. What possible purpose is there in learning advanced math for your average student? Unless you're going into engineering(in which case you should not be an average student in math, but gifted) then learning calculus/trig and anything past the most basic elements of algebra(ie understanding a variable can stand for a number) is a complete waste of time.

As George Carlin once said, they don't want you educated, they want you smart enough to operate the machines and dumb enough not to ask any questions!
We get it, you couldn't graduate high school. However, what does that have to do w/ this topic?

Yes I understand your = possession. You're = You are....It's not rocket science and it's in every woman's online dating profile to make sure you know the difference. They say only email them if you have good grammar and know the difference...Also their and they're LOL Snobs.... And I did learn that in 8th grade english and then spent the next 5 years studying more english learning nonsense about prepositions and all this other useless crap. I'm typing fast on an internet forum. GET OVER IT! Shakespeare sucks and in all honesty we don't speak OLD ENGLISH. This garbage shouldn't be forced on everyone just because you like it. It's WORK that accomplishes nothing. Unless you understand old english, it's mumbo jumbo. It's like reading a spanish novel knowing only a little spanish. Nevermind...that's it's just a play! It's ridiculous to have people doing reports on that. Complete waste of time when there's so much that actually needs to be learned. Your average person can't articulate why we need a separation of church and state. But of course we've extended high school for 4 more years for your average person. We call it college! lol Learn crap in liberal arts you'll never use and get into debt! Fantastic! All that so you can have a CHANCE at a living wage. Wagging the carrot. Of course what happens when everyone goes to college? Percentage of college degree type jobs won't go up. It will stay the same. So have fun working at starbucks after college. It's happening already. But keep up thinking how great "education" is!
Of course I'm not talking about people who actually use the degree like md, scientist ect, but even the amount of courses they take should be reduced. Too much nonsense they'll never use. Be better off with more clinical for example.
And the fact that you THINK you need all those courses and nonsense to READ/COOK/WORK in the garden is utterly laughable. Would you pass your tests now if you took them without studying any material? Is you're(LOL!yeah I know it's your) retention that good? LOL

Education is B.S. What' next....phd required to work at walmart? LOL Can you clean your butt and function without this B.S. education crap? Give me a break. We all die. Should enjoy life rather than spending a fortune learning/educating people in stuff they'll never ever use. It's like making a auto mechanic take courses and memorize crap about the last 50 years of automotive history and names of ceo's rather than just teaching the guy hands on how cars work and how to fix them! DUH!

You get an "education" to get a job. Not for learning purposes. Let's get real.

No. She is a victim of abuse and it's her choice if she continues to be a victim. He is the abuser who committed a crime, and because his behavior affects the public image of a very large public business, he has to deal with the fallout in that area as well. But I wouldn't feel too bad for Ray Rice, he won't be off the playing field for long if there aren't any more 'incidents' like this one.
