This is brilliant. The user (mostly young people) will be able to see how many "likes" they get, but no one else will - hopefully taking the pressure off young people to compete for likes.

This is a really good first step. A little risky for Instagram, as in theory, it will reduce some of the addictive quality.

But that's the whole point of Instagram.... well I mean that's what it's known for.
The way I read it is they'll take away the like button completely. They probably should.

Ok so only you can see it.... Good. Because I barely get any likes anyway.. but my husband gets more and I feel bad. So this is probably good.

This is neither what the article states nor what Instagram is doing.

Instagram is merely testing the 'no likes' feature. They have already done so on a limited number of accounts in other countries. Now they plan to do so on a limited number of accounts in the United States.

No decision has been made whether or not to remove public likes on all Instagram accounts.

a step in the right direction.

It is sad that young people compete for numbers of "likes" on social media.
