There had been a series of break-ins in the neighborhood recently. That explains it. The alarm she'd after he left the house early in the morning went off, and he was trying to turn off the alarm.

...And of course this happened in Fayetteville. Oi vey lol...since then 8 other people have been shot.

No, living in "Fayettenam" makes the occupants more paranoid. Having the firearm makes them (her) more impulsive.
