The thing is, there is no distinction between this thug and some black guy in the wrong place at the wrong time. The black guy 'accidentally' shot in the stairwell, the little black girl shot because a SWAT operative had his hand on the trigger of an automatic weapon while blinded by a flash grenade, the numerous black drivers shot during routine traffic stops... you can't say they were thugs! So you say little about those shootings and heap on the righteous indignation the minute there is any hint of 'justification' for a shooting. Black lives matter!
So your suggestion is for a police officer to let himself get attacked by a thug because some unfortunate person was in the wrong place at the wrong time in some unrelated instance? You are an anarchist obviously. Why have well-deserved consequences when some people are treated unfairly? Makes no sense. Either the cops will kill these thugs or armed homeowners will. Don't do the crime if you don't want to risk getting shot. Simple.
People are getting fed up with being accosted by these worthless lowlifes, and you're going to start seeing a lot more pushback from homeowners who refuse to deal with it.
I live in a city full of useless white thugs that attack police officers and worse and somehow law enforcement manages not to kill any of them, just saying
He wasn't a kid. He was a 19 year-old adult and father and a convicted felon on probation whom the police received multiple calls about on the night he was killed. One caller stated that he had punched someone, another stated that he tried to strangle someone. Participating in a home invasion robbery while armed with a weapon isn't a "low level felony". It's an extremely violent crime that involves a bad guy and a victim. He was the bad guy.

He was a black appearing person. Had he been white he would still be alive to face a jury for his crimes. This is why I have a problem with the death penalty. Black men convicted of capital crimes will and do get the death penalty. White men... maybe. In fact likely not. It takes a real effort to get a death penalty conviction when the defendant is white. The white kid on trial in Boston will likely not get the death penalty for killing three people (and his brother) and injuring (grievously) 260 others. In fact he just might get a lighter sentence when all is said and done than the Somali kid here in Portland who did absolutely freaking NOTHING and was held without a sentence for five years and was eventually sentenced to 15 more!

The police treatment of the mentally ill is well known. Those are controversial shootings but the officers can at least claim the victim had some kind of weapon... makeshift or not. There was a threat. I am not talking about those kinds of shootings and you know that. Stop flailing. There is a PROBLEM with the ongoing use of deadly force against unarmed African American men. There have also been a couple of African American women shot under very questionable circumstances as well. Black lives matter.

Emotional hand-wringing. Love it. People are dying and you characterize concern for the manner in which they are being executed... hand wringing. Must be nice to have the physical as well as emotional distance to be able to observe low level genocide with such... ... dispassion.
This kid wasn't BASE jumping, wrestling alligators or driving while distracted. To say that shoplifters, muggers and other low level felons should expect death if their crimes come to the attention of law enforcement is reactionary and wrong. Black lives matter!

I still recall that day in Westland Mall when a shoplifting teenager wrestled away a police officer's firearm and killed him with it.

I did not mention race. However since you did, I live in a city where a Black 15 year old teenager pulled a gun on a cop this weekend and lived to tell about it. The White cop did not shoot to kill.
