My question what were they doing "right" by having one of the creepiest mascots in the history of humanity to become what they were.

I've heard that Micky D's is, if you can believe it, making their food out of much less healthier ingredients than usual. So now the time it takes to kill you is greatly reduced and repeat customers are few and far between.

McD's thrived when median family sizes were larger, and ratios of casual dining cost/fast food were more extreme. Those days are over. I can get a 1/2 half burger, fries, drink, and tip for less than 2x the McD's cost for the same, and the food quality at the casual will be better, plus the dining experience and creature comforts of the place will be better.

Add in that todays DINKS going out to eat are not having to pay for 3 kids (unlike the 60s family), and more DINKs are at minimum at least slightly above middle class, and McD's plight was foreseeable.

mcd's just isn't that good, tastes change, and there are about 1000 other options for fast food and casual dining these days.

I don't particularly hate McD's. I just typically don't indulge in fast food.
That said, I was utterly disappointed at their new sirloin burger. I was hoping for something good, but it was dry, tasteless, and just... not worth $4.
On the other hand, I stopped at Hardee's around the same time and had a $4 burger from there, and there simply was no comparison in quality and taste...

Exploited workers and the plight of them is the last thing most McD's customers think of. Flipping burgers just isn't supposed to pay $15.00 an hour unless you want to pay $8.00 for a burger alone.

How do you know that?

Simple question... Are workers on strike good or bad for business?

McDonalds has to go back to their original menu.
And the size and taste has to be the same.
The fries have to go back to how they made them originally.
They should really rethink their strategy.
No breakfast, just the original hamburgers, french fires and milkshakes.
They won't of course, so they will continue to hurt.
Sometimes you have to revamp and go back to what worked in the first place.
