So, he didn't confess to singling out the police with his illegally possessed weapon. He was only defending himself from a protestor who was trying to rob him. Sure thing. I suppose that will get him less time, no intent to shoot cops.
One of the articles I read said the prosecutor wasn't really buying that story but said he didn't rule it out yet neither.
It should be mandatory Life in prison, no parole, segregation 24/7 for shooting at a police officer. If the cop dies, fry the S.O.B. within three days. It's the least we can do for our cops.

I'm not sure why it's hard to buy the story. If he was taking aim at the cops, he could have fired a lot more shots and hit more cops.
As someone who has almost been hit by stray bullets fired by gang members myself, I know it is not an uncommon occurrence. When people start shooting at each other, unintended targets get hit all the time. It's one of the reasons I don't support peoples rights to defend themselves with firearms.

It's hard to buy the story because of the location. It happened in front of the police department about 100 yards away behind some protesters. He was also firing from a car according to one of the charges. Also shooting more bullets would give away his position even more considering he was about 100 yards away from officers standing outside through he claimed he was shooting at someone else in front of the police department.

No, he was not 100 feet away. The demonstrators were 100 feet away. If the shots had been fired from the crowd, he would have been arrested immediately. Thats who the cops were watching.
The shots that hit the cops were fired from 120 yards away, a distance longer than a football field. There is only two ways to shoot someone from 120 yards away. 1. Using a sniper rifle with a scope. Which was the first image that I got when I heard about this, or 2. Just randomly firing bullets in the general direction, and hope one of them hits. Which now that I think about it makes a lot more sense.

If you had bothered to look at my post you would have saw I had edited my post minutes ago to yards. No one said the shots came from the crowd and the crowd was closer than 100 feet.

No the shots were between 100 -125 yards away. Two shots being between 100-125 and last shot at 125 yards. You don't need a sniper rifle to fire off rounds into the direction of people. Most criminals just fire off rounds in the direction which is why it was only 3 rounds. Also many witnesses said they saw the muzzle flash when it happened.
