After the amount of negative stories heaped on city data by several posters about the "bad" things police do I thought I would start a thread showing the good things we do... my sources will generally be regular media not uber-left wing sites... and the stories I post will be confirmed or have endings unlike the crap that gets spewed by what I term.."police haters"... many whom have agendas driven by motivations we cannot hope to vet on the internet. Im sure they will post up their vile invective smearing all of us serving in the United States.. which is actually a good thing and shows regular folks what we face every second dealing with sick people on the street. There are roughly five hundred thousand police officers serving in the United States.. maybe another hundred thousand reserve and part timers
Ill update this with contemporary events...most of the information comes from the "officer down" bulletins that are on our briefing board (so we can send money.. donate blood, or do a hundred other things for their families)
The purpose of this thread is to show the overwhelming majority of us love to serve... unselfish service is something that is lacking today in the world
Navajo nation Police officer makes the ultimate sacrifice
This is just March... I didnt put all the injured officers or all the shootings in the mix..or any from my department...
It is a privilege to serve and to say .... we care,,, and thanks to all of you that "get it".. and to those of you that have personally written to me in some form... it makes every second of heartache worth it.. and to the dispatchers who have written.. you are angels on the other end of the radio....
Again.. thank you

You must be a police officer. So, there are a couple of negative stories about police and we must now beat the drum for the good guys! Nothing wrong with doing both. Cops who dishonor the oath of duty = HUMANS behaving badly.

You can't be serious. This area is flooded with anti-cop threads. Nice to see a thread about some of the good they do.
Great idea. There are many more Police who do their jobs right, than there are those who don't, and that stands true no matter where you serve. There are also many more people who appreciate the Jobs Police do, and don't hate all for the actions of a few. More power to you.
Can you please explain the origin of your username?
For the record: I am not a "police hater." I have the utmost respect for everyone who serves their community, and that includes police officers. Cops have to deal with some of the most vile people on Earth, and in a decent-sized city, they do it every day.

I am just wondering what "notmeofficer" means.
Its the first thing I hear out of the mouths of most everyone I meet
You can post all the "good" stories you like. It doesn't make up for the fact that far too many people in your profession are completely out of control.
If you're trying to gain sympathy by listing a bunch of cops injured or killed in the line of duty, remember that no one made you sign up for this kind of work. No kidding it's dangerous work. That doesn't excuse all the trigger-happy cops who abuse their power every day.
Stop harassing people. Stop militarizing your police forces. Stop busting down doors in the middle of the night to ruin the lives of some person who smokes a joint. Start fighting actual crime. Then maybe you'll earn some respect.
I just posted elsewhere on CD a story about a guy in L.A. who had his iPad stolen from his car. He was able to track its location with another device and called the cops for help. He told them, basically, "This is the house it's in. Can you go in and get it?" He was told the cops were too busy and they'd get back to him. All he ever got was a letter offering him a special police discount on "The Club" for his car.
So now cops are "too busy" to do the job they're actually supposed to be doing. Probably because they're all out being revenue generators to justify their own existence -- hiding behind a tree or a building like a vulture so they can write a ticket to someone for going 5 mph over the speed limit or not wearing a seatbelt. Tell your fellow cops to take their focus off nonsense harassment like that -- things that do nothing but generate revenue for the cops -- and to get back focused on fighting actual crime. Then we'll talk.
