Deaf Virginia Man Jailed Without Being Given an Interpreter
Posted: Mar 20, 2015 05:59 PM
A deaf Virginia man has filed a federal law suit against the Arlington County Sheriff’s office because he says that they neglected to meet standards mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act when they failed to provide him with a sign language interpreter last month when they placed him in jail for six weeks.
The Associated Press reports that Abreham Zemedagegehu, who’s homeless, was sleeping at Reagan National Airport last month when he was arrested by Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. Someone said that he’d stolen an individual’s iPad. Zemedagegehu requested a sign language interpreter because he didn’t understand why he was being arrested, but he wasn’t provided with any help and instead was transferred to the Arlington County jail. Once there, Zemedagegehu was put through processing.
Only 1 million? Children stripped away, lost job, lost time at an already old age...I'd be asking for helluva lot more than 1 mil. City not only messed up, but made out like bandits.
Law and order people run amok. Every single criminal has got to be locked up, and we don't care how many innocent people get locked up with them. Fill the prisons. The sign of a great country is how many people are incarcerated. That's why America is the greatest country, because we have the most prisoners.
And if you don't agree with that, then you must just be a criminal yourself, or one of those innocent people that got locked up. In which case we don't care about you anyway.
That was the hallmark of the Soviet system - enforce every law on the book.

Why did it take two years for this to become public knowledge? And a million is nowhere near enough compensation, his attorney probably got half. This kind of thing has to stop.
Where did America go? Where did Americans go? Real Americans wouldn't stand for this stuff. The guards should have intervened if nothing else and refused to hold him.
This is a nation of thugs with nobody able to make an intelligent decision.
