Of course it's dangerous, and for all the reasons given in that article. Often, the perps call and set the poor kids up.

It must be the pits to work in fear like that.

Quote:
Ross Ticknor, a former driver in Eau Claire, WI, said the low-income parts of his city weren’t the problem—it was the college students. “These entitled college kids were always hassling, trying to rough us up,” he says. Fights were common. One driver returned from a run with a black eye, suckerpunched for no reason at all. “Pizza delivery guys are hard as ****,” says Ticknor.
Interesting.

Just have the customers pay online then call them and tell them to be in their front yard in 5 minutes.
Drive by and when you see them throw the pizza out the window like a Frisbee.

Eating pizzas regularly isn't exactly a prescription for a long healthy life either.

Delivering pizza is MORE dangerous than being a cop. A taxi cab driver is also more dangerous than being a cop.

Not only is it dangerous, but you have to use your own car and your insurance is invalid if you use your vehicle for commercial purposes. So if they get into an accident, they have ZERO insurance. Also, it costs over 50 cents a mile to run a vehicle and some of these restaurants don't reimburse for that. This is the same type of scam uber runs. Many of those drivers have NO INSURANCE if they run into someone unless they have livery tags and commercial auto insurance which costs a fortune. You actually lose money working once you factor in wear and tear on vehicle and gas and repairs/depreciation on the vehicle ect. It's modern slavery. They'd have to pay you at least 50 cents per mile all miles driven just to cut even. Then everything over that is profit. That's how much it would cost.

I'd make a law making it illegal to use your own vehicle at a job. Also, a lot of times they call you an "independent contractor" to avoid having to pay you minimum wage, workers comp, social security ect. It's disgusting. You also see this with "courier companies" looking for "independent contract drivers". You're not a contractor. They even tell YOU how to get your DBA. IRS and labor department should crack down on this and throw these people that are using slave labor in jail.

Working at mcdonalds for minimum wage is more profitable than this. Is some cases you can actually lose money! That's a complete scam.
