Don't attack someones home, and a knife is a deadly weapon. If someone pulls a knife on an officer and tries to stab them they have a right to shoot them.

Don't know any cases like that, that have resulted in mass protests. I don't think we're headed into some unreasonable direction. Maybe more reasonable actually.

Only one thing matters in that badly written article.
"He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter."

People say a lot of things. It's their actions that matter.

"Pleaded" would be a good example of the article being badly written.. However.

Consideration must be given to the fact that he pled guilty to manslaughter after having been convicted of murder.

It made the difference between him serving another 20-30 years or being released basically immediately.

I can't say I blame him for taking the deal.. Especially since it seems he had a sick wife at the time it was offered.

We can all stand up and say "I'd never say I did something I didn't do", but if you're faced with 30 years vs immediate release.. I'd put some money on whether you'd actually follow through with that.

That's one of the failure points of our justice system, IMO.. Too much disparity in plea deals vs conviction. The feds kinda have that one right.. I think in their sentencing structure, a guilty plea will knock, in general, 12 to 24 months off a sentence.. That's it.

I thought this was for CURRENT events lol

The story was two years old; the case is ten years old.
To the original question; based on the limited information
provided, I would support Mr. McNeil.

Precisely. Let's ignore the glaring facts in the post considering that it references current events regarding racial injustice in our society.
