Yep, I suspect TV has a lot to do with the perception. I've wanted to watch Sons of Anarchy as I've heard its a good show. However, it seems like they are playing up "good meth biker gangs" vs. "bad meth biker gangs". Fans: please correct me if I'm wrong about this.
However, I can't take any more of these idiots who say racist garbage like "well, unlike the crips" or "well, unlike the mexican gangs". Gangs are ALL garbage, Italian, Irish, Mexican, Jew, Black, whatever. It seems to happen anytime there is a news story about white biker gangs, and they come oozing up from the slime onto message boards.
Thank god 9 of them are dead and 190 under arrest. Bravo, cops.
Like I said, its not ok, but there is a difference. As a teenager in L.A., I remember these street gangsters doing drivebys at aprtment complexes killing innocent women and kids. The mafia, on the other hand will take out only who screws them over. Generally speaking
Not true. The mafia exploits and attacks anyone it needs to. Catholic charity scams, rips off of old people, burning down buildings for insurance money, child pornography trafficking, contract murder, etc. As much as I loved the Sopranos, shows like that tend to focus on "bad guys doing bad things to other bad guys" and thus create the myth that "innocents don't get hurt". That simply isn't true and Hollywood does an incredible disservice by asserting it. But they have to make characters that you spend hours with "likable" and "relatable".
Tony Soprano never was shown trafficking child porn... The Godfather was never shown shaking down innocent store owners for protection money... the "Goodfellas" were never shown burning down slums with people in them for insurance money... but those are all things the mob does.
It's obvious that the bikers were very careful to protect outsiders. let's hope that the prosecutors let this event go. it was a battle of men who have their own code. They weren't bothering anyone else; they're 21st century knights.

They have high levels of organization: front busineses for money laundering, members who go off to college to become lawyers and accountants to WORK for the gang, international ties, politicians who they pay off. America just hasn't woken up to it yet.
Also, when you graduate to a level of power (think Italian gangs moving into Wall St. scams) you no longer need to shoot up the neighborhood.
But when groups like that WERE more "street-level" the lead was flying.

It has nothing at all to do with race. The bloods and crips are very organized, and the Mexican Mafia is probably the most organized. I have a cousin that is in a Mexican prison gang and to him its all about respect and honor.
My point is, some of the bikers in that fight are reggular dudes. Just because you dont ride a bike and would die for the patch on your jacket, doesn't make them evil. Thats what they believe in. You and I dont believe in that, but thats the reality of it.
I don't care what race people with this kind of behavior are. The trend for the last fifty or more years has been to find out what's "really" wrong with them and to understand and try to help them.
It should be increasingly obvious to the most loving person that the amount of violence we are experiencing in America is proving that approach to crime doesn't work. (Wish it did. It's a humane concept. But too many of us aren't humane.)
Time to start removing recidivist perpetrators before we are all overrun.
