The President and the majority of the public have a very naïve view/understanding of law enforcement. Law enforcement can still obtain the tools they need for the job, however due to the actions of the president it will just cost the local tax payers more.

I'm friends with several cops - Asian, black & white. One is a neighbor, all of them are selfless and passionate about the community. I am grateful to all of them, every day.

They are all on high alert now due to recent events, and are all concerned. Besides our domestic issues, there are serious foreign threats. Stay safe, and watch your back.

The point is, they don't need armored vehicles and grenade launchers to do their jobs. They're police officers, not the Gestapo.

What about being in the middle of biker wars in Texas? If you were a cop (or the relative of a cop) wouldn't you have wanted an APC available?

In my opinion the restriction of any sort of firepower to the nation's police departments will have ripple effects throughout the law enforcement community concerning the perceived or real ""handcuffing"" of police power and also it's psychological effects concerning recruitment efforts by those departments.

A whole LOT of people agree with this action. I don't know if you've noticed - but the police force of today looks vastly different than what it used to. The militarization of our police force is no small thing and has been studied at many different levels.

The public has a right to be concerned.

Much of the military equipment was given to the Barney Fife departments and they simply do not need it. Again, the militarization of the police force has been studied at all levels and the concern is real.

To do what, exactly? Run over a bunch of parked Harleys?

In other words, an action that means absolutely nothing. I wonder how many transactions in the last 10 years would have actually been affected by this.
Tracked or wheeled armored vehicles are a money pit. FHP has a wheeled one but it is for show.[like the ferrari FHP car and similar] I think the only occasion an armored vehicle was useful in the USA is at the University of Texas in Austin in 1966 when a bank armored car was used to retrieve casualties while the shooter was still active.

Why? Have cops grown particularly more wimpy recently? They've been breaking up biker brawls pretty much since Marlon Brando and Hollister in the early 50s.

Doesn't matter. It is a headline that feeds money into the hands of those in control of the media. Stories never have to mean anything or even be truthful these days. It is all about profit. Once the media figured out there is money in shock value, they headline everything as shocking. Believe it or not, there was a time that news was mandated to keep people informed about events. 1/2 hour of local news and 1/2 hour of world news. Wow, what great times they were back in the 70's and before. Now it is all about shock and money. I don't think people are better for it, but there are those like Murdoch making millions and millions a month from all the suckers that are keyed up on stupid stories like this one.

Enjoy the day. Go out for a bike ride and be thankful you are alive.

Exactly! There is no reason a police force in Podunk, Iowa needs a grenade launcher.
