Red Cross collected half a billion dollars for Haiti, built 6 houses

"The Red Cross says it has provided homes to more than 130,000 people. But the actual number of permanent homes the group has built in all of Haiti: six."

It is hard to help people that won't help themselves. From the article in that link

"In a blistering 2011 memo, the then-director of the Haiti program, Judith St. Fort, wrote that the group was failing in Haiti and that senior managers had made “very disturbing” remarks disparaging Haitian employees. St. Fort, who is Haitian American, wrote that the comments included, “he is the only hard working one among them” and “the ones that we have hired are not strong so we probably should not pay close attention to Haitian CVs.”"

If the Red Cross collected money to build homes for 130,000 people, and said they built those homes, then there should be homes. If they had problems with workers, then they should have hired different ones. It's not an excuse. Even worse than the Red Cross fiasco is what our own government aid (USAID) did or did not do with billions of dollars of taxpayer funds that went to build things like soccer stadiums instead of homes. There was a very interesting documentary about it on Vice, which airs on HBO I think. It's a shame what happened over there. People are still living in squalor while rich people took advantage, paid for by our government.

Couldn't have said it better...instead of examining how the Red Cross lied...lets make disparaging remarks about Haitians...6 houses...let that sink in ....and people who donated money should all check out that Vice Haiti episode

Charity's are the new tax free slush fund for the idle rich and sleazy politicians, look at the Clinton crime family's fund, millions go in nickels and dimes come out.

Dig further. It's the fault of the PRIVATE contractors they chose. There was an episode about it on Vice.

There are some very good charities and some very dishonest ones. The Red Cross spends a large part of donations on salaries.

Most of the big well known charities spend more on themselves then they do on the actual crises for which they collect.

After reading about all the money that hasn't gone to Haiti I gave up.
No more money to charities.

I donate food and hay to animals via local rescue groups.
No money though..actual cans of food and square bales of hay.

Instead of putting Bill Clinton in charge they should have put Jimmy Carter in charge.
Jimmy Carter has done wonders with Habitat for Humanity.

But heavens forbid we put an honest man in charge of a pile of money.
