It's hard to believe they felt pressured into such an invasive and private probe mentioned.
I'd have trouble if I was on a jury since they agreed to let it happen.
For many struggling to pay for college to better their lives, the threat of having their grades reduced or not being able to find a job after graduation because they refused to participate in this manner is enough to force them into it no matter how much they object. Too much is on the line. I don't have a hard time believing this AT ALL.
Did only two women volunteer? Did more women volunteer but only two are suing the school? There's not a lot of information in the article, but the whole situation sounds very demeaning and creepy. And if they were actually threatened with being blacklisted from future employment if they didn't submit, that's unacceptable. Volunteer means the person is willing - not coerced.
There's a big difference between nursing or massage therapist students giving each other baths or massages as part of their training, and actually performing invasive techniques on each other. If this information is true, Valencia had better change the way they conduct their practical instruction asap.
Well how else will they learn the procedures correctly? Its not like established medical centers will let students in to fumble around on their patients.
I don't see much wrong with it; BUT they should have agreed to it. If they agreed to do it, no charges should be made.
Anyone here ever actually had a vaginal sonogram performed?
Even if you voluntarily consent to it and want to have it done (in order to diagnose a problem), it is uncomfortable at best. It's invasive. It's uncomfortable. Even if the technician is gentle and explains everything he/she is doing as he/she does it, you can't help but feel at least a little violated when it's all over. I couldn't imagine having it done in front of an entire classroom full of people....repeatedly.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if these women were threatened with failing their classes or being "blacklisted" for employment. Not at all.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
At least half of us here can say no we've never had it done.
Wouldn't you think the College had them sign a written consent form?
