One State is Trying to Prevent Walmart from Double Dipping in Your Wallet - attn:

In theory, raising the minimum wage increases the cost of living. However, places like Wal*Mart CAN, more than likely, pay more and offer benefits.

In some states Wal*Mart provides social service applications along with the Wal*Mart application for employment.

How is it Walmart's or any company's problem that the gov set regulations in place that allow people to get public assistance? How is Walmart responsible that their employees do not know how to manage their income and live a lifestyle above what they can afford, like having kids for example?

It is the government who determines who is eligible for public assistance, not Walmart.

Are you serious? The economy sucks, and for some people, Wal*Mart is the only place to get a job.

So WalMart reduces the wages from 9-10/Hr by $1 to 8-9/hr to make up for the fee, Government make more in taxes, Wal*Mart Employees make a $1 less.

Good Plan....

What does that have to do with Walmart? What does Walmart have to do with the economy being good or not?

I will try to make this simple for you; I own a store, I hire two people at 20 hours a week to be a cashier, I pay them the market rate which is $8.25/hr. How is it my concern if they are on public assistance or not? The government set the criteria for public assistance, not me. The employees led a lifestyle that made them eligible for assistance, not me. The government sets the minimum wage, not me.

Wal-Mart is not a normal business. It's not a small business. It's not a startup. It's not a medium sized business.

It is our leading employer. And the heirs of Wal-Mart are sitting on enough wealth to single handedly stimulate the economy. What Wal-Mart is doing in some areas is borderline immorral. And I say that as an entrepreneur.

As the industry leader they should be setting an example. I won't go into some of their other business practices but they are not quite a great American standard.
