As if already making multi-billions already is not enough. I'm sorry but at some point it just becomes ridiculous. Costs mount. Boo hoo Walmart. Cry us a bucket of tears.

Retail margins are puny. I'm not surprised that they are looking for some extra coin after they announced that they are giving $1/hr raises. And $1 dollar an hour is nothing. Nobody is going to bust their butt any harder for 5-8 extra dollars a day, on a part time basis. It's not an investment, it's money that Walmart is basically throwing away, but for the fact that the workers need it more than the share holders I gather. Somebody still has to pay for these raises. Suppliers will just be forced to raise their prices, which will send merchandise prices higher. And don't forget, suppliers have to give raises, just like any other business.

When you increase wages you've got to pass those costs on to your customers.

The millions who depend on Walmart for their cheap food / SNAP will just be taking home less food.

Wal-Mart Stores will begin charging fees to almost all vendors for stocking their items in new stores and for warehousing inventory, raising pressure on suppliers as the world’s largest retailer battles higher costs from wage hikes.

I'm not a Walmart vendor so I don't care. Heck don't shop there. Plenty of other mega big box stores to shop at.

Did people really think a business is going to raise salaries and just absorb the cost ?
When has that EVER happened ?

Only in Liberal Fantasy land. They don't understand the cause and effects of really running a business.

It's the same old Wal-Mart. They've always stuck it to the suppliers that want products on the WM shelves. They just thought of an additional way to do it. If I were a supplier, I'd look for a company that would allow me to sell with a better profit margin and make money there.

So what's their beef about raising minimum wage then?! Why are they screaming and hollering when they've always had the ability to pass that on to the consumer?
