Won't these people ever learn not to do things like these.

Now I see they're playing up the 'military veteran' angle, and no doubt there are some that will laud him for his actions and go into tangents about how people need to stand up to criminals.

But there's a time and place for that, and it's NOT in situations like these. This guy deliberately locked the two criminals in the store in order to confront them. He put himself and more importantly others at risk for his wanna be heroism.

This isn't the first time an employee was fired for trying to be a hero, and it won't be the last.

Army veteran fired from CVS after trying to stop robbery | Fox News

Quote:
When two suspects tried robbing a Maryland CVS on Friday, Army veteran Joe Morici sprang into action.

And it cost him his job.

Morici, who served seven years in the Army, including a stint in Afghanistan, was fired from his management job at a Beltsville CVS because he intervened and tried to catch the men, FOX5 reported.

But Morici said his reactions were purely based on instinct when two men tried robbing the CVS pharmacy during his shift.

He quickly told cashiers to call 911 and helped an elderly man out of the store before locking the doors, preventing the suspects from leaving. Then he confronted them.

I know people will be jumping at the chance to decry CVS's actions, but many people don't know about Cristian Giambrone, a CVS clerk who was killed by a shoplifter (he was also a kid who went to my school, was two years below me and we had mutual acquaintances). The parents sued CVS and, even though they lost the case, I can see CVS not wanting another, similar situation on their hands.

Fact of the matter is, there is NOTHING CVS sells that is worth your life to retrieve and this risked the lives of other employees to boot. Sorry, I would have fired him too, Army vet or not.

This is a nonissue because CVS did the right thing. His action was automatic grounds for termination. As someone in a managerial position he should have known better but naaaaaa, he wanted to "put people down." Good riddance, imagine if an innocent bystander gets killed because of his actions...CVS would have been in serious trouble.

He is clearly due for another stint in Aghanistan. The itch is obviously still there.

I agree. He locked the robber in with other customers.

Hey maybe those guys who hit the gun store in Houston, when they get outta prison they can do pharmacies instead.

Sucks, but you can't lock criminals in with people when they are trying to leave. That's escalating and forcing a confrontation. Stuff isn't worth risking the life of an innocent bystander.

If they did have a gun and then pulled it and shot someone this guy would feel real stupid.

Now if they are waving a gun around and threatening people, well you don't know what their intention really is so you are free to assume the worst and pull your own gun out and give them a strong case of lead poisoning.

You guys make great points about endangering other customers. I was all set to announce my boycot of CVS before reading those comments.

I am now officially the only person in the history of the internet who has changed his opinion based on other's posts.

But at least the customers wont have to worry about a robbery turning into a hostage situation because somebody initiates a half baked intervention "plan" that locks the robbers in the store with the customers.
