$72B in debt for an island with 3.6M people? That is $20,000 of debt per person. What a joke, how do they get themselves into that mess? Then I just looked, GDP per capita is $23,000. Ridiculously poor management.
Buried in both the House and Senate versions of the minimum wage bill is a provision that could cause an economic catastrophe for the 3.8 million U.S. citizens in Puerto Rico and most likely spark a massive wave of migration from the island. The provision, sponsored by House Republicans and supported by their Senate counterparts, would eliminate a huge tax loophole for U.S. corporations operating in Puerto Rico and use the savings to pay for tax breaks for small businesses on the mainland.
