Land of the free ... to move to another country? A recent poll of 2,000 adults concluded that 35% of Americans would consider quitting the US and living abroad. That number jumps to 55% in the 18 to 34 demographic, per the poll by Transferwise, a UK-based money transfer service.
There were also a bunch of people who said they were moving to canada because the SC ruled in favor of gay marriage... despite the fact that Canada made it legal long ago.
Not everyone who considers things really thinks them through.
It's kind of a meaningless poll without people saying where they'd emigrate to. Most Americans don't really know other countries well enough to make an informed decision in that regard. For example, once relocated, they'd probably hate and complain bitterly about, their chosen country's taxation system. Everyone wants freebies as long as they don't have to pay for them. And most Americans don't have a clear idea on the political issues in other countries, either. The conservatives would end up complaining about the local liberal parties, and the progressive people would end up complaining about all manner of things.
And then, there would be the weather, and other trivial things. Poor customer service, or whatever. I imagine that most of the people polled either have no idea where they'd want to relocate, or wouldn't be happy once they got there.
I wonder about the demographics of said 35% . . . . Do the good ones want to live abroad, or do the bad ones? Depending on that, my answer could change.
Most Americans don't know of better or worse countries to live in, that's why they tend to either demonize or idealize life outside the U.S. I bet most of the people that want to leave America for high tech Japan, orderly Germany and romantic Italy would be back in no time once reality hits in the face.

I've spent many years in many different countries in my time. One thing they all have in common. When you get there, they have their hand out. Not to shake but to run your Visa. No Visa........No es bueno, Señor .
