More than likely they were either young or retired.
It's more for economic reasons than for political reasons.

America is a great country with a great way to elect its leadership, every 4 years the people are called upon to vote for the party or candidate they want to run their country,majority rules, however the system fails if the losers get all butthurt about their candidate or party not winning then start making plans to leave the country.
