It was lunch!. for Pete's sake. Separating the children and removing them from the clutches of their nasty, controlling mother was in the best interest of the children. A reasonable mother would have insisted that the children go to lunch with Dad and behave themselves.
Visitation was allowed and scheduled. Children do not get to rewrite a court order. Especially when they do so in an attempt to please their mother.
The detention center wasn't the only option. If the mother is this manipulating, malicious, and damaging, perhaps they should have been placed in foster care. To put them in what is essentially jail just because their mother has used them against their father and manipulated them, as minors, is probably not the best choice. Sounds to me like they need to get away from both their parents and be placed in a hopefully loving, stable home. IMO that would be the best course of action. Rather than punishing the KIDS for their parents' actions, punish the PARENTS. "Well you each want the kids so badly that you have taken it this far, manipulating them and turning them against their father (if that's what happened - again not ruling out the possibility that he's abusive)? Then neither of you get them."

Check up on the foster care criteria for Pennsylvania... apparently because of changes made after the Sandusky case, there is currently a 10-year waiting list for foster family placements.
Foster care was probably not an option.

Exactly, and it's reasons like this I have absolutely NO faith a judge can judge to save their lives.

Anyone remember this?

A woman was forced to pull up her shirt for a male police officer and when she gets in and tries to tell the Judge she just looks away and plays with her child. Seriously, do would-be Judges have ANY quality control? Any psych evaluations? There are FAR to many flat-out STUPID Judges and I wonder how these quacks get to Judge ****!

I thought this happened in Michigan?

Oh, duh. I don't know why I thought it was Pennsylvania, though at least in 2012 Michigan had an even longer wait list than Pennsylvania.
I really don't understand the relevant laws in Michigan for when a child can be placed in foster care, but it very much sounds like that Michigan only recognizes physical and sexual abuse, and so what the mother is doing would not be enough to place the children in foster care...?
