Many Americans love the symbolism of the American flag and the ego boost of being part of the most militarily and economically powerful country in the America. Many so called patriots despise vast swaths of the American populace. Its something you see often in these forums, especially P&OC. Had she said "I love America. I hate Americans." you'd have a lot of people quietly agreeing while pretending to be outraged.

Of course, look at the whole democrats hate America rhetoric for offering a different than what republicans want. You can insert liberals or progressives for democrats and conservatives for republicans. It is nuts.
