The hospital bill for his treatment? $153,161.25, with $83,341.25 of that attributed to antivenin and other pharmacy costs. The media is lapping it up, with the Washington Post’s Christopher Ingraham saying that the bill for Fassler’s snakebite shows everything that is wrong with the American health care system.
Taking a selfie with a rattlesnake is stupid but a $153,000 bill is crazy.
I got run over by a guy making an illegal U turn and my bill was over $38,000 for a night in the hospital... nothing ended up being wrong with me besides some scrapes and bruises.
If you look at the itemized bills for hospital care, it's just madness. $40 for an aspirin, a scalpel that cost $170, $800 for an x-ray, $1200 for a specialist to say hello to you, $300 for each time a nurse walks past, $1500 an hour just for being in a hospital bed, and so on.
In contrast, I got stung by a jellyfish on vacation in Australia and the bill was $60.

The hospital billing is a huge fraud and nobody does anything about this.

On the other hand, do you believe that someone who got bit accidentally for no fault of their own, should be paying the extortionist price ?
This is what drove his bill up:
KGTV reported that as a result of Fassler’s supposed snake selfie stupidity, his treatment depleted antivenin from two hospitals during his five days in the hospital.

The bigger problem is that there is only 1 supplier of anti-venom left, it requires injecting the venom of 1 type of snake into a donkey, then somehow filtering the anti-venom out of the donkeys blood. It does not kill the donkey, but the animals rights nuts object
