Despite officers being able to smell alcohol on Giancherio and noting her slurred speech and watery eyes, she denied that she had been drinking. The girl said her mother drank a half of a bottle of liquor and offered to go find the rest of the “booze” for the officers, the complaint continued. The girl was pleading with her mom not to drive drunk.
Video surveillance from a nearby liquor store showed Giancherio in the store buying a “large bottle with a clear substance” just minutes before the incident.
She also refused to answer the door when reporters came. Nothing is said about where the child is now.
She still has the daughter because its only alcohol. Its a government approved medication with zero harmful effects (except DUI's), its not like she is pot smoking drug addict
She would be better off leaving her daughter at home for an hour. 8 year old can handle being inside on her own for an hour or two without baby sitter.

But leaving children unattended is illegal too...
Too many laws.
Or too much irresponsibility. What is a mother of an 8 year old doing out driving, drunk, at 3:30 am? Being out at 3:30 am, okay. Whatever. IF you have a babysitter and IF someone else drives you in the event that you were drinking. The story makes it seem like she went out that late in the morning , purchased the bottle, and drank half of it. Irresponsible even without a child.

3:30 PM, afternoon, that time of the day when the sun is in the sky.

Uhh, sorry that I thought it said am? My point still stands. It's irresponsible when you have a child to be drinking like that at 3:30 am or pm. It doesn't even matter. To be that drunk, with no one there to watch over your kid and to get in a car? Irresponsible. The getting in the car part is irresponsible period, no matter the time, no matter whether or not one has a child.

Because that's what alcoholics do! There are no rational explanations for what alcoholics do because there is nothing rational when you are drunk and getting drunk is job #1 for such folks.
For the sake of the child there are only two things that should come out of this; the mother deciding to enter a successful rehabilitation program and the child is given custody to another parent or is placed in foster care until the mother can prove competency. Personally, I'm not particularly optimist of mom getting clean at this point, she needs to hit rock bottom and the child shouldn't be left in her care while mom continues here journey to the bottom.

Based on the article, she wasn't taking her daughter along to the liquor store. Her daughter thought that jumping on the car was the best way to get her mom to stop from driving drunk to the store. Unfortunately, that mother valued her next drink more than her daughter's life.

Imagine how many times she has seen her mother in that condition to be so desperate as to jump in front of the car. How sad. That child should be with a guardian or family member.
