What's really sad is it's not as if any of our politicians give two ****. Despite what they say you know they just look at soldiers and veterans like used toiler paper.
I worked for an outpatient radiology facility for many years. In the 35 years the place had been operating, they had only fired one radiologist.
Guess who became the head of radiology for the VA?
On topic, in this particular case, and in many cases I've seen before, private sector included, there is a level of responsibility assigned to front desk people for ensuring access to timely care, determining who gets the next appointment, whose rx request MUST be put in front of the doctor's face right now.
These people are the lowest trained and the lowest paid of pretty much any role in medicine. They give them a set of rules. Well, medicine isn't making widgets. You have to exercise judgement. They don't pay or train these folks well enough to be someone whose judgement I'd trust. Though some come by it naturally.
The VA is a real good example of what happens when the government is running health care. They don't a damn about the veterans and would prefer they die in order save money.

Completely agreed. They may try coming back on the first contact person saying they didn't state the severity properly or something along that line.

Not exactly. Medicare is pretty good as a govt. payer. They have rules in place to protect their patients.
The VA is a special case. They need a serious hard ass running that ship. Someone who is a bit of a crusader, and has a lot of leeway with hiring, firing and shifting the budget around. Just my opinion.
Or maybe we should can the VA, and just give them all lifetime Medicare with Medicaid as secondary payer. Might save some money, kick off some dead weight and allow our veterans to choose their own providers.
I believe the VA would be better and cost the government less if it became a health insurance veterans can use at the doctor and hospital of their choice regardless of where they live then sell off the VA medical clinics and hospitals. Graff and corruption runs rampant through all levels of the VA. When administrators are openly corrupt, poorly qualified for the position, and hold their position thanks to political friends within and outside the VA then the corruption will pass down to the lowest levels, from nurses down to housekeeping.
