A Nashville hotel canceled reservations for an annual conference of the Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC) this week after learning of the group’s white supremacist beliefs.
The Guesthouse Inn disavowed the racist organization that has been cited as an inspiration for Dylann Roof, the man charged with murdering nine African-Americans at the historically black Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, S.C., in June.
So, why isn't this hotel being fined&sued for discrimination like a baker who won't make a gay marriage wedding cake? These people may have some outlandish beliefs, but never pulled the trigger.
Perhaps the difference lies in the fact that that white supremacist beliefs and homosexuality are not remotely comparable, being that one group is the victim of discrimination, and the other group espouses discrimination as its foundational belief.
To think a business would lack the ability to discern the difference is frankly insulting.

The difference is that homosexuals are a protected class while old racists are not.
On one hand, following the logic of some, the business should not have the right to discriminate against anyone, regardless of how they feel about them, on the other hand, some feel you should be able to discriminate against anyone and everyone based on a whim.
The law basically tries to split the difference and come to a reasonable compromise.
That said, I wonder how the response would go if this was a gathering of the Black Panthers and how the reaction to that would be overall if this hotel took the same action. Would all those applauding this hotel still be applauding and feel that the correct action was taken, would anyone claim that it was an act of racial discrimination? Conversely, would those disagreeing with this hotel in this case be showing approval?

Not taking sides, but where is the consistency?
You mean, aside from the fact that it's not illegal to discriminate based a group's ideology or politics? Seriously? You didn't understand this? Businesses are free to discriminate against those who are Nazis or communists or liberals or conservatives or whatever ideology/politics, provided the discrimination is because of that ideology/politics. Are you genuinely unaware that anti-discrimination laws explicitly list a range of proscribed discriminatory behaviors, and that only these forms of discrimination are prohibited, and that ideology/politics have (I believe) never comprised a protected class?
For example, let's say we have a wealthy conservative who owns a reception hall, and a local liberal group wants to rent it to hold a fundraiser. The conservative owner, not wanting to do anything to facilitate liberal politics, declines. There is no law against that. On the other hand, let's say an interracial couple wants to rent the hall for a wedding reception. The conservative owner would not be free to decline on, say, the basis that he opposes the 'mixing of the races'. Note - I'm not implying that your typical conservative would do such a thing. Do you really find this outrageous?
Beyond that, did you notice that Nashville is in Tennessee? The instances involving bakeries being sued for discriminating against gay couples of which I am aware come out of Colorado and Oregon. They are based on state laws. Why on Earth do you think that a Colorado or Oregon law should be applied in Tennessee? You are aware that different states have different laws, right? Personally, I think such discrimination should be banned by federal law. But at present it is not, and in many states - like Tennessee - it is perfectly legal (albeit reprehensible) to discriminate based on sexual orientation.
And if it was the Black Lives Matter group and the hotel canceled the hotel would be in trouble.
