When I use to drive one of cars that many see as a 'drug dealer or 'dope boy' car I would sometimes get randomly pulled over in one of the suburban areas. I got the car because it was reliable and cheap. The encounter would usually go like this:
Me: See blue lights proceed to slow down and pull over.
Officer: Where are you heading?
Me: To work.
Officer: Where do you work?
Me: So and So on So and So road.
Officer: Can I see your license
Me: Provides license
Officer: Looks at license (doesn't go to car) and gives it right back. Have a nice day sir.
This didn't happen to many times but it has happened. Once bought a newer family sedan this dropped to zero. I was getting profiled, but honestly I knew the game and tried to keep it KISS, so I could be on my way.
One more story
Me:See officers and know with 100% certainty that I was going to get pulled over for window tint.
30 seconds later I get pulled over.
Officer: I'm pulling you over for your window tint appearing to be too dark and failing to wear you seat-belt. Can I see you licenses and proof of insurance.
Me: I look at the officer directly in the eyes. Sire, I just took my seat-belt off when you pulled me over, In a serious not for debate manner, and passed on my information.
Officer: Doesn't say anything and goes to car. Comes back a few minutes later and gives me a warning ticket. No mention of the mysteries seat-belt infraction.
Direct eye contact can work both ways. In this case I was letting the officer know he wouldn't be able to slip a completely false infraction on me but in a respectful way. I wouldn't be able to argue that in court and would get hit with the court fee and ticket cost if I tried to plead my case. With a possible insurance premium increase if the infraction was added to my driving record. All for a lie. That ticket would have cost me a lot in the big picture. We as society shouldn't have to lay over for a police officer and at the same time people should be respectful as long as the officer isn't seriously violating there rights.
If people and police officers would think about how the would interact with their own family members in a situation it could make for a more pleasant interaction. But judging by society today, that may be a stretch, but it's good in principle.
Did you not watch the video where the officer says "because you made eye contact"?
Did you?
The officer said, "Because you made direct eye contact being held onto as I was passing you [emphasis mine ]" which, though inarticulate, means that the driver was staring him down. And BTW, that clip also shows the driver asking why besides that [the signal violation] he was pulled over.
And concerning that, yes, drivers are supposed to signal their turns at specified distances. Like those biotching about cops pulling over drivers for "minor" infractions such as using high beams, for example, this driver is also arguing the technicality . If people don't want even traffic laws enforced as they're written, then they should work to change them.

You get it... people with agendas never will... the officer mentioned his legal reason for the stop ..and his feelings ..one is legal ..the other doesn't matter UNLESS its coupled with other legal reasons
We call it the felony look... or the awxsheeit look. Parolees have it..cops have it..they know us..and we them .. regular citizens display discernrment or fear .. crooks display deceit.. fear.. and doubt... its so telling a one year took learns this.. if you want to stay alive you do
How many times have each of you looked at your children and knew they did something "wrong" long before you discovered it...
I can't pull you over for "the look"
But I can for the other 48000 vehicle codes
Get over it folks
And while were on the subject
Profiling works very very well...we aren't allowed to do it because of PC garbage
Ask the Israelis....
I enjoy your posts. Keep up the good work. Every time I get to thinking that maybe Cops are not as Bad as made out to be, you post a comment that takes away the notion. Then you guys wonder why some one is always popping one of you guys in Uniform.
I guess they figure your guilty of some thing by the way the Cops looked at them, so they shoot them. That could be called profiling maybe?
Try this. Walk into any Barrio and start looking directly into the eyes of someone, say in their late teens to early 20s as they sit on a front porch with several friends. Please, report back on the results, then ask the question again after your dental implants heal up.

i dont think it is....the officer didnt say it was illegal
Yup, but, if you look at the wrong person I guess you're in for it, huh?
