I disagree vehemently with how she's behaving, but I also don't care about her background or past.
I'm a religious person myself (though not the same religion as Davis) and I do respect her right to her beliefs.
However, she is overstepping her bounds as county clerk in refusing to issue marriage licenses to anyone. She is refusing to perform an essential function of her job and not allowing her subordinates to sign SSM licenses by proxy.
That ALONE is enough for me.
If she finds that the demands of the job can no longer be reconciled with her religious beliefs, she should resign. The taxpayers of Rowan County are entitled to a county clerk who will perform all of the responsibilities associated with the office.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Bungalove's post meant to be sarcasm ...?

Don't feel bad, I didn't realize that it was sarcasm either at first. It was the 'face-smack' smiley that prompted me to read it again and thus come to that conclusion.
So, maybe she feels like crap about her own life, so she's diverting attention to people she thinks are even more despicable? I dunno the psychology behind it, but if this article is true, I certainly think she's doing this due to some type of self-loathing.
Freak show. Fire her or lock her up, and assign someone who is professional enough to do the job without hearing voices in his/her head. This woman needs to see a shrink and a big fine to go with her jail time.
I am hoping for very large fines rather than jail time. This woman obviously gets off on "standing on principle" despite a lack of living a principled life. In short, she's digging her 15 minutes of fame and jail time would only galvanize her martyr status. Fine her the maximum under law and have her removed from office for dereliction of duty (yeah, I know she's an elected official but even they can be impeached).
