My grandparents (and even great-grandparents) had Social Security and Medicare in their retirement years. None of us who live in the US and have relatives who live here has seen what life without any social safety net looks like.

It's ridiculous that the government taxes us the way they do and then considers any little bit thrown our way to be a form of welfare.
Were these things also considered welfare for the purpose of the original statistic on immigrants as well, I wonder?

As somone married to an immigrant who knows many, many immigrants, all of whom are hardworking and many of whom are more successful than myself, I'm surprised by this statistic.

Just because Obama refuses to enforce the law of the land and the constitution doesn't mean it is ok. This country cannot sustain itself economically by allowing this.

I actually feel bad for you. You are a bleeding heart liberal who loves to spend others' money.
Bingo!

Good point. People don't push/drive as much when they know they have an easy way out. This is fact.

I'd also like to see our country enact standards that only allow people in who can sustain themselves economically. They have a skill set. At least a minimum amount of education, giving preference to those with degrees/advanced skill sets. Have a minimum amount of savings before being allowed in.

Of course with our open border "policy", this is all foolish pie in the sky thinking on my part......
