That and they'd have to go up against potentially better drivers who might embarrass them in a lot cheaper, less capable vehicle.

As a side note, the Ferrari freak probably does not have full diplomatic immunity.

My strong impression is that after a series of hard drinking white eastern European and nominally Christian diplomats terrorized DC with a series of blatantly disgusting DWIs that led to a few KIAs (they drove Fords, not Ferraris), full and total diplomatic immunity is now only given to the actual ambassador and say, the Charge D' Affairs.

The rest of the staff, including the spouse of the ambassador, just have "official status", which means they get out of parking tickets, cant be subpeoned, and can ignore city ordinance violations etc. Anything else, and they can get proscecuted. Foreign countries do the same for us and limit full immunity to a very small number of people.

It's not the police. It's the government.

One person has fled the country. I don't believe the police have identified the driver. There are different types of immunity and in this case no immunity might apply.

1) That's outside the jurisdiction of the LAPD.
2) Even the LAPD would exercise rare discretion when dealing with those clowns, by virtue of their wealth and connections.
