i work part time at our local high school and have been wondering if they will ban it on clothing. we have a lot of redneck/country kids that wear tshirts with it. so far it has not been an issue. i can even think of 1 black kid that wears it, he's super redneck! we are right outside of roanoke, about an hour from christiansburg but i hadn't heard about the ban there.

editing to add that when we lived in georgia, the brand dixie outfitters was banned from school, or anything with the flag.

So then are all symbols of personal expression banned? If the kid put a Black Lives Matter sticker on the window, would the administration ask that it be removed?

A part of me wants to say that you lost the war 150 years ago. Give it up already. Display the American flag instead, if you are compelled to show a flag on school grounds. I am positive that if Native Americans started displaying their tribal flag on school grounds, they will not be well received by the great unwashed masses.

For me anyway, the issue is not the confederate flag. The issue is stifling personal expression and deeming certain things "offensive".

If one has a sticker with a christian symbol, should it be removed because it maybe offensive to atheists, as someone stated what about a black lives matter sticker, a rainbow flag, Mexican flag, girl power, an image of a sexy woman.

Who gets to deem a particular symbol offensive.

Seems like they need on person with enough fortitude (and/or money) to fight this on the grounds of freedom of speech or expression.

In some schools students have been banned from displaying an American flag during Mexican holidays here in the US because it might offend the Mexican students.

Of course not. Those are 'protected' groups.

Land of the Free, right? Maybe I'll start believing it when America stops using its Constitution for toilet paper.

Well not when we can see by the leading cause of death for black males between the ages of 15 and 34, that the black community itself doesn't believe such nonsense.
