ouch. I just felt my health insurance premiums increase just from reading this post. We need to get over this "extend life no matter what it costs and quality of life be damned" attitude.
Aren't miracles generally considered positive things? This kid is never going to talk, know other people, live on their own or do any of the things humans do.
All I can say is I hope massive amounts of money aren't being spent to keep this vegetable alive.

Sadly, these parents should just let the baby pass away. All the testing, medicine, etc will not be sustainable in the long run and it looks like financially they can't afford it.
Here's the thing, absent physical pain, a good life is only as good as one's expectations. If a person is incapable of recognizing the inadequacies of their life, who is anyone to argue that their they are not living a "good life." I guess what I am attempting so say, is that a good life should not be defined by our definitions of the good life. That being the case, and absent physical pain, there isn't anything selfish about the parents actions, in fact they have taken on sacrifices that would break the average person. There son will experience life in a way that we can neither condemn much less comprehend.
I know some people that have a kid like that, its a complete vegetable that cannot walk, talk, or eat on its own. I think keeping children like this alive is actually kind of cruel, mom and dad may take care of it as long as they can, then they become a ward of the state cared for by minimum wage employees in dilapidated old hospitals.
I don't have a problem with the parents continuing to love him. If they had decided to end the pregnancy, I would have understood that too. This baby is an exception to this particular birth defect. It's interesting that he can physically do the few things he can do.
