Because he's mentally unstable and got away with instigating a fight and killing someone. He's feeling invincible. Unfortunately, many Americans helped prop up his lunacy because of their racism.
I'd be surprised that "most people" hate George Zimmerman. "Most people" probably haven't put that much thought into it. More accurately what should be said, is of those who hate GZ, most do so because of his Hispanic descent.
Personally I don't know why anyone would waste time on hating him. It's not like it's going to get them anything.
I think he was hated more when it was believed that he was a White man who had shot a Black boy. The "Hispanic" thing threw water on that fire.
