I've always wondered about planes that have one pilot. I've been on some tiny planes, and I always thought they hired one pilot for them. How do they get the plane home?
You are right about the second pilot. They are a team, and having one of two team members sitting dead next to you, had to be traumatic.
How traumatic for the first officer who has to concentrate on flying the plane rather than on trying to save the captain's life. Very sad.
The FO is doing what he was trained to do get the plane on the ground quick, that is the best way he could help the Capt.
The FA, are trained to handle a medical Emergency , Media Reported that one of the FA was a nurse.
Radar tracking had the plane dropping about 3,000 feet per minute, That is a fairly big drop to get he plane from 35,000 to the ground in around 10mins or so.
If I recall the numbers it was 15min from Emergency notification to BOS Center to pulling into the gate at SYR.

The Pilot stays with the plane, Either s/he drops off the passengers in the "small" plane then goes on to his next location (or home), or s/he sits at the airport there until passengers are ready to go to next location.
Have not seen any pictures/statements but the captain was probably on the floor in the front galley area. Where the FA could provide medical services.
If there is one pilot and s/he can not continue to fly for some reason, the company s/he works for send in another pilot to get the plane. (AA send in a whole 2nd crew to continue the flight from SYR to BOS, the flight left about 5 hour later)
Kudos to the First Officer for maintaining a level head and following his training, and kudos to the Flight Attendant for trying her best to save the Captain's life.

I've wondered that too. If that one pilot suddenly becomes incapacitated, what then? I was on a 10-seat plane in Alaska one time, and the pilot balanced the load by having me sit next to him. And while of course I wished no harm to come to him, I have to admit that I did indulge in a fantasy of him having a (non-fatal) incapacitation, and me being the hero by taking control of the plane and safely landing it.

Interestingly on a few of the AirTaxi Flights I took in Alaska, The Pilot asked if any of the passengers were Pilots. I said yes I am. I got Front seat, and they took a few seconds with me to point out a few things.
