Other than the local grocery store, I easily spend more money at REI annually than any other place. Love that place, and I'm glad they are making this move.
There Target Demographic is very Online Orientated.
Speaking as a longtime REI co-op member who gets a nice dividend at the end of each year, I use online sources—even REI—to "shop"—but I always go into the store to make the purchase. I want to keep as many local stores, especially great ones like REI, in business and employing local people.
Great move. Sick of stores opening earlier and earlier, and people falling for it. I know we're a capitalist society, but geez. Few years ago it was 4am, then jumped to 1 am, then midnight, and now its as early as 3pm Thanksgiving day.
I wish someone could either regulate this, or people would have sense to sit and enjoy time with family, rather than fight traffic and stand in line at the big box for a tv.
Black Friday was fun at first, but now the whole culture is just sad. Push things back to midnight and later and my tune will change. This 3pm, 5pm nonsence is pathetic.
Lol, and just what "tune" of yours will change? The stores care about shoppers, and they'll continue to cater to them. If shoppers don't turn out in numbers that increase profits, they'll close or trim hours. Your tune means nothing to them.
REI's sales are already up by double digits this year
Wonder how much the movies Wild and A Walk in the Woods helped with their sales increase? If I wasn't already a member, I would have definitely checked them out after seeing two movies sing their praises.
