On Monday afternoon, D.C. police officers broke up two groups of fighting teenagers. A few minutes later, a female officer approached the lingering crowd and told the teens to disperse. That’s when Aaliyah Taylor, a 17-year-old senior at Ballou High School, walked up to the officer and started playing “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” on her phone. Then she did the Nae Nae dance. The officer, according to Taylor, laughed and said she had far better dance moves than that. “Instead of us fighting, she tried to turn it around and make it something fun,” Taylor said. “I never expected cops to be that cool. There are some good cops.”

When reached by phone, the officer in the video said she did not want to be identified because she didn’t want to make the story about her. “It’s kind of embarrassing that this became so big,” she said. “This is what we do everyday.” The officer has been with the force for about three years and recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq.

See it doesn't take much to de escalate a situation.

Good for this Officer who should be a role model for others to follow.

I like her, we need more like her.

Yep! I agree, I tried to link directly the video but C-D won't cooperate so anyone who wants to see it will need to click on the link to the article.

WaPo limits how many articles we can view per month. I maxed out last week.

Good for this officer. She is a fine example of a community officer and I suspect there are many more like her every day. They just fly under the radar in their service.

I'm not sure why people are impressed. The fight was over and an officer of the law made a public fool of herself. What else is new in America?

And yet the two groups were lingering, probably still fired up and waiting for the cops to leave so they could get back at it.

The girl that the cop had the dance off with had an extremely low opinion of cops. The dance off between her and the cop had helped to change her opinion about cops, as the girl had stated. It's a pity you think it is unimpressive and foolish when a cop does something that makes a positive impact on a young person.
