My opinion? America is the most hypocritical place on the Planet. Still trying to uphold original plans when people DID the right thing, mixed with a majority of citizens who long ago started lusting to do something different.
The fictitious time when people were virtuous. During WWI, USA experienced more wartime casualties from gonorrhea than from enemy action. That was a century ago.
As for girls ruining their life, back in the '60s I knew a girl who hooked her way through college. She would turn about 5 tricks a week for $40 (the going rate back then). She made sure she didn't show up in any photos and used a false name. When she graduated she quit, got a corporate job, got married, had children, and is now retired and still married to the same guy. I was never one of her customers, but we were neighbors in college and I got to know her pretty well. Her life was not ruined. She was not traumatized, and told me that she sometimes enjoyed the sex very much.
We are still in touch. I think I'm the only friend she has left from that long ago. I'm very discreet and would never tell anyone about her mattress scholarship, though her husband knows.

That would be all well and fine if prostitution just involved consenting adults.
But it also involves human trafficking and is closely tied to the drug trade. It's about beating teenage girls and getting them addicted to drugs. It's about abusing and threatening and hurting women while taking away what they have earned. The consenting adult thing is not what the majority of it is all about. Not everyone involved is an adult and not everyone involved is consenting.
Yes, I agree, which is why it should be legal. I'm not talking about picking up a hooker on a street corner or having sex with a young girl. In areas of Nevada where it is legal, the women who work at the "ranches" are regularly checked for disease and drug use. These establishments also provide a safe place for prostitutes to work.
Of course human trafficking should be stopped. So should child porn. Those are entirely different issues.
No shorter than 6 feet tall (I'm around 5'8 and even then with lifts), white, good finances, extremely confident, gotta be a "bad boy" but just not bad to her, and all that other mess.
So if you're a not-so-tall, kind of shy, non-white male who has a job, but isn't pulling in six figures by any means, well...
if the cornerstone of legalizing abortions is "government has no right to tell a woman what she can or cant do to her body" then why is prostitution illegal?

I agree with your point.
And although it's a rhetorical question, I'm gonna answer it anyway: Female voters don't sympathize with prostitutes. Thus, unlike the issue of abortion, the issue of prostitution cannot be used to manipulate female voters.

In any case, if the modern Westernized woman wasn't so picky, perhaps some men wouldn't feel the need to resort to such practices. Personally, I'm not trying to go through hell and high water just to impress some woman. If a man can't attract a woman who he is also attracted to by just being himself, who can blame him?
The problem is that you don't appear to see the victimization of those girls who are forced into prostitution.

forced labor is always about victimization.... it is not just about prostitution. Humans should never be subjected to forced labor.... it doesn't matter what type of labor.
Note that of all the types of labor listed, only prostitution is made illegal.
There exists areas in which prostitution is legalized but heavily monitored and regulated. It is in these areas that prostitutes are working a their own will and protected from such.
