The only annoying thing about this is if it happened to the opposite race (any opposite race) and whites were the perps, it WOULD be a hate crime without question. I wish hate crimes were created equal. It's entirely possible for someone to commit a hate crime against a white person, though we seem reluctant to admit it. It's entirely possible for someone to be racist against white people.

It is a hate crime, and it should be treated as such. This nonsense is getting out of hand on both sides, and harsh penalties for should behavior are the only thing that might deter some of this.
